Memorial Day

As I woke up and scrolled through social media this morning I already saw a lot of posts about people almost challenging what people are doing.  So many memes talking about "You think it's just a three day weekend" or "Incase you think it's National BBQ Day."  I get it, a lot of people lose site of what Memorial Day is actually about- but do they?  I can only hope that EVERYONE is doing something to celebrate their freedom and ability to enjoy today, we wouldn't have the ability to do so if we hadn't had SO many people sacrifice their lives for us.   I would like to imagine all of those who have died fighting to give us the right to be with family, have bon fires, bbq's, make s'mores (or whatever you do to celebrate) would be happy knowing that because of their sacrifice we are able to do this.

The USA is so politically and otherwise divided, more than I have ever seen in my life. Or maybe it's just because at the age I am right now I'm paying more attention. However, I think we should all take today to not let more hostility and aggression take over and just enjoy being here, in America, appreciating all those who have worked to give us the life we can enjoy, and ENJOY it.

Something I plan on doing with my children today to help them remember what this holiday is about is to write a letter to a soldier.  I think this is a great way to reach out to those who are still living and fighting for us to be able to celebrate today and it's important to let people know that they are appreciated.  I've had many loved ones in the military and it is a very tough situation.  I can't even fully imagine, even with the stories I've heard and changes I've seen in them, I know I can't comprehend it because I haven't personally lived through that experience, I can only hope my prayers and listening ear did something to help them through it.

This is the organization I plan on writing letters through with the kids incase you want to do so as well: http://www.amillionthanks.org  There is also www.anysoldier.com

Here are some ideas for some simple snacks to have today at your gatherings as well as a drink I'm going to be doing from https://www.thetaylor-house.com  Simple, refreshing and won't kill your diet! I'm going to substitute club soda with sprite for the kids so it's a little sweeter for them.

Thank you to all of you who have served in our military.  If you're reading this, I'm glad you're here to read it.  Thank you to all the families who have shared their family members and loved ones who have gone to war and fought for how we live.  I'm sorry for your loss if you lost someone.  May their memory live on and their sacrifice always be remembered.

Love Always,
xoxo

  1. Super great job Misty ! So true ! I’ve lost family in war and was in the Marines myself . It’s about the people who gave all (their lives) so we could have a day like this !
